HOMEWORK - module 2: Raising Your Child’s Self-Esteem
In this transformative module, you’ll learn how to foster your child's self-esteem through the practice of encouragement rather than praise. Encouragement focuses on highlighting effort and improvement, teaching children that their abilities can grow through dedication and hard work.
- Read Chapters 4, 5 and 6,7 in 'Redirecting Children's Behavior'. Share your favorite thoughts from the book.
- Watch to the video and share one thing you can do this week to improve your co-parenting relationship.
- Share what you are committed to this week, and one action you can take to help you meet your goal.
- Think of something your child does better than you. Ask your child to teach you how to do this. Describe what happened.
- Encourage your child(ren) at least 3 times a day. Share one way you encourage your children.
- Tip: Compliment the deed not the doer. “You cleared your plate and put it in the dishwasher. High five! Thanks for being a team player!!
- Practice asking for what you want. Instead of what you don’t want. “I want dirty clothes in the hamper by Friday, thank you!"
- Have an Encouragement Feast with your family.
- What was the result or take away from this experience?
- Tip: Remember to have one person go first then everyone says what they love about him or her. Then they say what they love about themselves. Continue until everyone has a turn. (Pp 88-92)
